So Level 4 is completed… time has flown ever so fast. From the moment I came through the studio doors until the very last day, I can proudly say that I have enjoyed myself, meeting new people and getting to know the tutors and the staff, ADA suddenly became very homely. The course was aggressive and hard going on a faster paste than I imagine, however I gained new interest in some areas that I’d thought I’d never. The briefs were very illustrated, and it’s a shame that there wasn’t much typography/ design /layouts grids basic design knowledge.. all thought we did roughly touch on these subjects later on in the year.
I think in the first year it’d very important to keep an open mind and explore the unknown, it gives you a real insight of your strengths and weakness. I feel like i have gained new skills on typography, I’ve learned so much about the language of type and the use of colour and I’m very looking forward to continue with this path into next year.
Im looking forward to leaner more about adapting my design and mold it into sociality, working with clients and making my mark on this world.
I think next year will be very exciting, I will be working with students and tutors that are more interested in the same areas as me, so therefore I will get a better understanding of my mistakes or my strengths. looking back at my portfolio, I can see the potential that I have, but because this year was very diverse it was hard to stay on one style so i could continue developing it. However on the other side, by moving on and approaching different styles, I have become more confident and not to be so afraid of experimenting. I think this is the heart and soul of first year. And i deffinatly advice any new first years to experiment as much as they can, because it will only make you a stronger designer.
Next week Im off to berlin for 3 months, during this time, I will continue developing my typography and the use of negative space. It will be an amazing experience, full of inspiration for me.
Learning a new language, dancing to the very best minimal techno, meeting creative people, tasting new food, graffiti, organic shops, drinking good beer, Art, design, minimal…just MINIMAL! riding bikes, smoking cheap cigarettes, people watching, german markets, culture, I could bring all these ideas back to liverpool with me in September, I am really looking forward to it!
